5 week old sleeping unusually a lot today

Sleep

Hi everyone! Anxious FTM here to a 5 week old boy, who is breastfed. I should be sleeping right now as my baby is asleep in his bassinet next to my bed and my fiancée is asleep with his first day back to work tomorrow.

I just called the on call nurse through my pediatrician’s office and got freaked out because I did not quite explain today correctly and she suggested at first we take our baby to the hospital. I told her he has been sleeping unusually a lot today and is usually pretty alert. At his age I feel like he doesn’t sleep thattt much. He has also been feeding well today and I know for sure because I pumped and gave him a few bottles. I also checked his temp with a Braun thermometer and it is normal.

When I told her he was pretty fussy in the early afternoon for a while and then had a bath, she instead suggested we call the pediatrician in the morning just to make sure they don’t want him to be checked out. She was also concerned about his breathing but he is breathing well. He can sometimes be soo hard to wake up but online and from what she said, it seems concerning if the baby is really hard to wake up.

He was able to wake after I changed his diaper, and started to cry up until I breastfed him. But soon after he started a few mins went by and he fell asleep again. Then I moved into another room, he woke up and continued to feed but fell asleep again after a few mins. Now I’m freaked out if I got the timing of how much he slept today correctly, and if we really should go to the hospital. There were periods he was awake a while but this morning he slept for like 3 hours in my fiancée’s arms, was up a while to feed, fell back asleep for at least 2-3 hours again on a long walk in the stroller we took, then was super fussy with gas pains from maybe 530-8pm and he got a bottle at 8. Had a bath and went back to sleep while we ate/ slept in fiancée’s arms from like 9-11. So maybe I’m just overreacting idk. It’s just so weird that he fed for maybe 5-8 mins around 11, got swaddled, and now he’s still asleep. I feel like he would’ve woken up being that he always does in the bassinet and because of how much sleep he got today. If anyone has advice to compare to what she said I’d greatly appreciate it!
