Does anyone knows if the happy ghast returns to us?

Was out exploring, pressed the wrong buttons and fell from my ghast (thanks totem of undying) but instead of waiting for the ghast to come down, i went to my base as i wasn't that far (maybe 500 blocks away). Read that the ghast will stay around the last player to interact with it if not on a rope, its been like 3 in game days and my ghast is not back. went back to the area around i was last and i didn't see it or the harness.
