Is the Tarnished evil?

Okay, don’t get me wrong. I know Elden Ring isn’t meant to be like Spider-Man where we’re some heroic vigilante, fighting crime and stopping muggers and thugs. But, some of the things we do is wildly questionable.

For starters, we break into the Raya Lucaria Academy, find a broken woman who is minding her own business, kill her children, and proceed to give her an absolute smackdown when she isn’t even fighting back. If Ranni hadn’t stepped in, we would have killed her, too.

I get in the long-run we sort of nipped a future issue in the bud given the plot of the DLC, but Malenia also couldn’t possibly be any further out of our way.

Again, I know we’re not Superman, but the Rennala thing confuses me.
