I’m the most cursed sports fan in all of existence.
I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio for most of my life until we moved to Cincinnati when I was 14. Growing up my family were always big baseball fans and so I was I. We were huge fans of the Cleveland Indians (now the guardians) and the browns.
The Indians/Guardians made it to the World Series TWICE and lost both games IN EXTRA INNINGS
The browns have never made it to the Super Bowl and have since gone on to become the victims of arguably the greatest sports disaster in history with the precedent setting guaranteed money contract of Deshaun Watson that has absolutely obliterated what little remains of the browns franchise.
When I was 14 I moved to Cincinnati and really started getting into sports, especially our local teams in the area.
Recently the bengals made it to the Super Bowl for the first time in their history and i actually had tickets to go and see it. They blew it in spectacular fashion to a last second missplay.
Our local college football team, the Cincinnati bearcats made it to CFP finals with a perfect record, first time it’s ever happened in their school history, and they completely collapsed on themselves and only scored a single field goal the entire game.
The college I ended up going to was the university of Dayton. And while I was attending, for the first time In the schools history their basketball team made it to the number 1 seed overall with the best record in the league. It was shaping up to be a miracle playoff run until the college basketball playoffs were completely cancelled due to the covid 19 pandemic. They lost all their stars and have never been good since.
Their star player, Obi toppin, ended up going to the Pacers, who happen to be the closest nba team to where we live. Naturally we became huge fans immediately. Just this year they have made it to the finals for the second time in history, and just tonight they lost in game 7 after their star player, Tyrese Haliburton suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon which will likely leave him unable to play all of next year too.
Every team I have ever rooted for in my life has made it all the way and blown it. If you’re reading this and thinking to yourself, “hey my teams have never made it to anything, be thankful your teams at least made it”, no. I would much rather be a casual fan to a team that’s going nowhere than constantly be strung along like this on the edge of my seat only to have every game pulled out from under my feet. It’s the worst feeling in the world
