Cashing a check

I have a 401k disbursement coming in the mail. I have a Navy Federal account but haven't used it in years. It still has a positive balance and appears to still be open. If I take my check to a local branch, will they cash it for me? I use USAA but I only have a Navy Federal local to me. If I can avoid a holding or waiting period, I'd like to.

I read on their website that if they cash a check, they may hold that same amount temporarily from funds already in my account. There certainly is not enough in the account to match the check since I dont use Navy Federal any longer.
