If you're extrovert, don't give advice to lonely people
I'm just tired of this pattern where someone complains about loneliness only to receive condescending advice.
"Join a club, go to a bar, go here, go there, do this, do that, etc."
It's like rich people telling the homeless to buy a house. If it were so simple, they wouldn't be in that situation to begin with.
There might be several reasons why someone might not want to or be able to join in-person activities. You have to stop pretending like you're bringing valuable insight with your platitudes. Maybe those spaces don't exist in their town; maybe they don't live in a country where it's safe for them to be openly gay; maybe they just don't have the time, money or the right group of friends.
So, please, dear extroverted gays who regularly go to college parties in NYC or LA, stop being out of touch and shut up for once.
