TIPS

Wishing everyone well. Google just leaves me overwhelmed. My mom had advanced cirrhosis and was recently hospitalized and had TIPS surgery performed. I talked to the doctor and he told me she would still need to get drained (paracentesis) which my mom didn’t think was gonna be needed after the procedure. Can someone explain to me why? And just explain TIPS overall to me. Thank you
