Signature LC vs Mydei's LC for buffed Blade (comprehensive comparison with calcs and tldr)
I’ve been seeing discussions popping up, even from some CCs, saying that Mydei’s LC is better for buffed Blade. Being his main and a calculating enthusiast, I’ve decided to check it out myself, accounting for every possible scenario and being as fair as possible. There is a short conclusion at the end.
So, what does Blade’s LC have?
- +18% HP. Same as Mydei’s, so they cancel each other out.
- + 18% CR. Since many have their Blade at 100 CR or even higher, I’ve seen people say that it’s not as valuable, but that’s not how you fairly compare two light cones. Blade cannot reach 100% CR on his own, even with Sunday’s 20% he only gets to (5 + 12 + 16 + 20) = 53. You still need to fish for CR substats, and with his LC it means that you can do it less and focus on HP% or CDMG substats. The way we make a fair comparison is to assume 100 CR for both LCs and convert Blade’s 18 CR into 36 CDMG.
- +24 DMG%. It is applied after Blade loses hp and disappears after he uses an attack. This means that Blade loses this buff if his FUA triggers immediately after his EBA or Ult, or if he Ults when he has less than 50% hp in some cases. Since the second part pretty much never happens, the situation is only relevant for Fuas, but not all of them. To account for this I decided to just half the buff for Fua (so +12 dmg%)
What does Mydei’s LC have?
- Higher base HP. This one is considered by many one of the strongest buffs of this LC, which is actually not the case. If we take Blade’s LC and just give it Mydei’s base HP, the increase in dmg would be less than 3%. That’s because HP has much higher numbers than other stats and Blade already has pretty high base numbers, so plus 105 doesn’t do much. But it’s still not nothing, of course.
- +20 % Incoming healing. Since Blade can now restore his hp tally from healing, this buff sounds important. But let’s calculate a little bit. Blade in his premium team will have around 8k HP, that means his total tally is (8k * 0,9) = 7200. Since he now loses only 50% after using an Ult, this means he needs to restore only 3600. On average, Hyacine’ skill heals for 1000, her Ult for 1300 and Blade’s Fua will heal him for 2000 in this case. With his own +20 healing that would restore him ((1000 + 1300 + 2000) * 1,2 * 0,25) 1290 hp tally. With Mydei’s bonus that would be 1505, so only +215. Meanwhile two of his Eba’s already give him (8k * 0,2) 1600 tally. Add that to his original tally from healing and that’s 2890 - almost all of the tally already restored. And that’s not accounting for any of the enemy's hits (which would be many with his new aggro) nor for Hyacine’s additional healing from those hits. Moreover - all of this is only relevant for his E1, because in E0 the tally is only important for his Ult, using which he will gain most or all of his tally immediately. For this reason I think that this healing bonus is functionally useless. If you disagree - that’s fair, just note that I won’t be accounting for this in my comparison.
- It gives +60 DMG% for Ult. This buff is much more noticeable, since Blade will now use his Ult more often and do more dmg with it.
- It drains his hp after skill and Ult. It’s the second biggest buff in the form of giving him more stacks for Fua, which buffs his dmg not by increasing dmg itself, but by giving him more attacks. More on that later.
So, how do we calculate? It is always important to consider the bases for calculations - i.e., what rotations are we using. If we assume that Blade does 1 Fua for every 3 Eba, for example - it will have way different dmg distribution than a rotation of 2 Eba and 2 Fua. Which will directly affect the calculations, especially if one LC buffs one and not the other. Now, I don’t like using battle simulations with tons of assumptions about enemy actions, because they end up being too far removed from reality. What I like to do is to look at actual gameplay versus different enemies and try to calculate some kind of average. Both approaches are flawed, but we have to choose something. Now, the new Blade can be… all over the place. In some showcases he does more Fuas than Ebas, or does the same number of Ults as Ebas. But on average, I’d say for every 1 Eba he does 0,8 Fua and 0,7 Ult. Since we always know his EBa count based on his speed, we can extrapolate other actions from that (you will see it on the spreadsheet). When calculating, I’ve rounded all decimals to the closest integer.
The team I used is his premium team of E0S1 Sunday, E0S1 Tribbie and E0S1 Hyacine with his best sets nad close to endgame stats. We are talking about minor optimisations here between two limited LCs, meaning that if you’re thinking about pulling one of the other, you probably already have a high investment team for him. That said, team composition actually has some impact on comparison, but I’ll say more in the end.
Since two of Mydei’s LC buffs are tied to Blade’s actions, we need to know how many of these actions he is using. We also need to know the type of actions, since the buffs don’t apply to all of them. For this reason I tried to account for both actions spread across the cycles and for the enemy count to capture as fuller of a picture as possible. And this is what we see.
So, not accounting for extra Fuas from Mydei’s LC, the Blade’s is still around 3-4% better just on pure buffs alone. It’s with extra Fuas that Mydei’s gets ahead. Funnily enough, before doing this in depth calculation, I theorized that Mydei’s LC will become better over time, since it will accumulate more Fuas for Blade, but the end result is the opposite. And after thinking about it’s pretty clear as to why. In the earlier cycles Blade gets 2 extra Fuas, because this is when Blade has the most turns with 134 speed. After that the number of turns decreases, and so does the number of stacks from LC. At the same time, in the beginning 2 extra Fua’s is essentially +33% increase to his Fua count - and a bigger percentage of his overall dmg. But with time he accumulates more Fuas and other attacks, and so dmg from extra Fuas becomes saturated.
Continuing - the biggest difference, unsurprisingly, is in the aoe scenario, since Fua is full aoe. Also unsurprisingly, with his E1 the difference becomes smaller, because his Eba contributes more to his dmg output, and Blade’s LC buffs EBa more.
There are other caveats.
Firstly, with Mydei’s LC he gets 2 stacks at the same time - just like with Jade. And as we all know, unfortunately, this means that stacks can be wasted, which will affect LC’s performance. In the calculations I assumed that none stacks are wasted. And if we remove even 1 additional Fua from calculations, that will already make both LC’s pretty much equal on average in 1-3 target scenarios.
Secondly, the dmg from Fua’s also can be wasted to an extent. It will more likely happen in a low target scenario. Imagine that you can kill a boss with Ult and Eba or 2 Ebas. An extra Fua can come in between them, but since its 1 target dmg is lower, you’ll still need to do a second attack, meaning that your Fua did basically nothing outside of giving you some energy.
Another thing is that Mydei’s LC benefits from Sunday on the team and from double turn setup. Without either of them Blade will have less energy, therefore will do fewer Ults, therefore will have less of a buff from the LC. I say that because RMC is very competitive with Sunday in a Blade team (and there may be better future supports), and with him Blade’s LC will have a bigger edge. How big? I don’t want to do a whole other round of calcs, so I assume it to be around 3-5%, which will remove almost all of Mydei’s advantage.
I suspect Mydei’s LC will have the biggest impact in PF, because in most cases Blade’s Fua clears all 4 ads in the first two waves. Which can noticeably speed up his way to the third wave. In the third wave, however, there is also a potential for a wasted dmg, but it will still help, especially with Tribbie who likes aoe attacks.
My overall verdict - Mydei’s LC is a sidegrade on average and a small upgrade is some scenarios (mainly aoe) in Blade’s premium team. Its performance varies widely, ranging from highest +10% in 5 target scenarios in the first couple of cycles to lowest of +2% vs 1 target. And it’s all pure calculated dmg, the reality will be much messier. Its biggest advantage is extra stacks, which in roughly 5 cycles will give him about 3 extra Fuas. In terms of pure buffs it is 3% worse than Blade’s. But stacks can be wasted, decreasing the number of Fuas, and the dmg from Fuas can also be wasted in some scenarios. Its dmg output is also lower by 2-3% with E1. And its performance will take a hit without Sunday feeding Blade energy, possibly neglecting all of LC’s advantage. Because of that it’s more of a wild card in terms of future proof, since there may be better support without energy regen. While Blade’s LC buffs are generic and suit all scenarios. And there is a small chance it will be buffed.
Personally I prefer Blade’s, because it’s more consistent and future proof. And more importantly - it’s prettier! But from a performance standpoint, as of now, I see no reason to pull one of you already have the other. And if you have neither, you are better off getting it after you pulled for all of Blade's best supports and potentially their eidolons and LC's. And Blade's E1 is much stronger than any of his best LC's.
