The motivation of this post is that I’ve seen several posts in this thread where someone comes to ask about Selena and then the most upvoted answers usually tend to be extremely unhelpful. I have the feeling that either they’re written by people who don’t like Selena or are just bad at explaining.

First thing first, I had to say this:

# YOU DON’T NEED TO READ RECITATIVO DI FANTASIA

No, you don’t.

I’ve forgotten everything about the story of that game mode, and when I was playing it I just skipped and skipped. And that didn’t stop me from loving Selena.

There's a misinformation is that you need to read a ton of side stories in order to get Selena’s character.

No, people who said that are completely wrong.

There are only THREE things you need to read:

1. Echo Aria
2. Tempest interlude
3. Tempest affection stories

Those are what made people love Selena. Everything else is fanservice created later after Kuro realized how much people love Selena.

So you just need to read those three things and then decide for yourself whether you love her or not. If you don’t, then move on. If you do, you’ll go find more Selena content on your own.

# AND IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ THOSE, HERE IS THE TLDR VERSION

**Spoilers warning, obviously.**

Keep in mind that those stories are emotional so you kind of need to read them in order to feel it. Reading a summary weakens the impact a lot.

People said that the only reason why she’s popular is because she’s madly in love with SKK, but that’s plainly false. There are many more characters falling in love with SKK, so what makes her stand out of the rest?

No, the key theme of Selena’s character is **Tragic Love**.

The stuff about two people who are meant to be together but can’t because of cruel fate. Selena’s story is basically that but up to 11.

Long story short, Selena and SKK are pen pal. They hit off very well, but they never got to meet each other due to circumstances. Whenever one tried to arrange a meeting, the other was busy with something else and couldn’t make it.

When Selena was about to make a life-changing decision: to become a Construct, she had sent a letter to SKK and asked for SKK’s opinion. But SKK was on a mission at the time and only came back several months later, and at that point, Selena had already undergone the transformation. They lost contact since then.

And when they finally met, for the first time, Selena was literally a ravaged corpse. Gabriel was practically dragging the upper half of her body in front of SKK. And guess what, SKK had no idea who she was, because they had never met before. SKK’s attention was more on Gabriel than on the corpse he was holding.

Can the story hit harder than that?

Well yes, due to the fact that while SKK, the character, didn’t know who she was, the player did. The dissonance between what the character knows and what the reader knows makes it hit even harder.

# NOW I AM GOING TO ADDRESS THE SO-CALLED “UNNATURAL DEVOTION” SELENA HAS FOR SKK

There is absolutely nothing unnatural about it. Do those people even read Echo Aria???

No, Selena is not devoted to SKK merely because SKK is her pen pal. SKK is her dear friend, yes, but most of the decisions she made had nothing to do with SKK.

Selena fell in love with SKK because he literally saved her in Echo Aria.

Here is what happened to Selena:

* Captured and tortured for a period of time by a crazy robot (Riot)
* Captured and tortured for a period of time by an even crazier robot (Gabriel)
* Thrown in the Red Tide to be consumed
* Got transformed into a monster (Siren)
* Selena was basically trapped in an endless nightmare during all of this
* In the battle between Siren vs Wanshi & SKK, Selena recognized SKK due to their connection and woke up, and thanks to that, they managed to destroy Siren
* After the battle, Selena got resurrected by Ishmael, but she still suffered from the nightmares (described by her as the “storms”) and only the thought about SKK could calm her down

That's it. Now you can decide for yourself whether her feeling is shallow.

I am going to enlighten you about Selena
