Could POTS and ADHD be different presentations of the same disorder?
I came across an article that talks about how some researchers have a new hypothesis that ADHD and POTS may be linked, as both involve autonomic dysfunction. The hypothesis details that perhaps connective tissue instability plays a key factor in the development of these disorders.
I know many of us, myself included, have seen an increase in patients who believe they have symptoms of a connective tissue disorder (early research indicates that hypermobility is a risk factor for later development of dysphagia).
Given that about 10% of the population is diagnosed with ADHD...that could potentially make connective tissue disorders significantly more common than originally thought. And if this is the case, it is evident that our medical system is NOT equipped to handle that.
Now of course, with this hypothesis also comes many questions that I hope future research will answer. Curious as to what other's thoughts are on this.
