My biggest pet peeve about this fandom is people forgetting characters and relationships aren’t one dimensional

Critical Character Discussion

Meaning, thinking characters are good or bad. Or relationships between characters are “toxic” or “super healthy”.

For example, Lorelai and Emily. People like to argue if Lorelai is the bad daughter or if Emily is the bad mother. The truth is neither is true. Their relationship is complicated. Yes Emily was a toxic mother to Lorelai but she also cares a lot about her and tried to be good in her own way; how she knows. Lorelai had good reason to escape her parents but it doesn’t mean it wasn’t hurtful to her parents or that she couldn’t have done things differently.

Or Rory and Dean. Did Dean have his toxic traits? Absolutely. But so did Rory. But they both also did love each other a lot at one point, then Rory just fell out of love and for another guy as many 17 year olds do in highschool. Then later on, she did go back to him but it wasn’t real love, just going back to what was comfortable.

I also don’t believe that any of the characters like Lorelai, Emily, Rory, Dean, Jess, Logan, Richard, etc are all good or bad. They’re complicated and make mistakes but choose their actions based on what they think is right. A lot of people think the characters are black and white.

Of course, at the end of the day, Christopher is undeniably horrible. No debate. Chris hate will never not be tolerated.
