AITAH for not letting my boyfriend look through my phone
my boyfriend and i have been dating almost a year. he just got an iphone after having a samsung for years so we could finally facetime. i didn’t even know this was a feature but apparently you can control the other person’s phone through screen share. the other night i requested control (not knowing what the button was) and that led us to testing out the feature. i eventually made a joke and went onto his venmo to imply that i was giving money to myself. obviously i didn’t do that and wouldn’t do that.
today we were on facetime and i was screen sharing while doing a crossword. after we finished he requested to control my phone through screen share for a joke he wanted to do. i HATE it when people look through my phone/take my phone, like when i have to bring my phone to IT or if someone needs to look at my phone, i always get so anxious even though there’s nothing on there that i would hide or be ashamed of. i just hate it because i have extreme anxiety and my mom used to forcefully take my phone and read my messages and go through it. so, it’s not that i don’t trust my boyfriend, i just hate people going through my phone. so i said no.
he got so mad at me and even after i explained to him why i didn’t allow him to take control of my phone on facetime, he’s still mad at me. am i the asshole here or do i have a right to my privacy, even though he says i “don’t trust him” now.
