USPS EDDM Service: What You Need to Know

Have you considered the EDDM service offered by USPS? Lately, I've been chatting with a few clients who are interested in utilizing USPS's EDDM service for their local marketing needs. However, the main issue they face is the high cost associated with it. For instance, if a customer only sends out 2,000 copies at a time, the per-unit cost can be quite steep.

When it comes to reducing printing costs, one option is to print larger quantities of 9*12 or 11*14 cards at once, which can help lower the unit cost. But for small and medium-sized businesses looking to send out 10,000 EDDMs, the total cost including postage, printing, sorting fees, and delivery to USPS can range between $4,000 and $5,000. This steep price tag may be too much for smaller clients, and sending out 10,000 EDDMs at once might not yield significant results. It might be more effective to split the mailings into four parts of 2,500 copies each and send them out monthly for better impact.

I've noticed that sending more than 10,000 EDDMs at once doesn't significantly reduce printing costs. The main issue here seems to be the high USPS postage rates, which have increased by 35% over the past five years.

In comparison to online advertising, EDDM services may not be as cost-effective and could yield poor results. What are your thoughts on this? Feel free to share your insights. Welcome to discuss further.
