AITD for breaking no contact to tell my mom she cares more about being right than being a mother.
Okay bear with me fellas. I’m Zeph (20 nb, they/them) and came out to my mom as nonbinary almost three years ago now. She refused this whole time to use my real name and made comments often whenever I saw her about how she doesn’t like my makeup, my hair, my clothes and how she “misses her real daughter”. Because of that, among a solid handful of other things, we haven’t spoken in three ish months and I decided to go NC with her about two weeks ago.
I started my message to her going officially NC by saying “I need you to understand I will never be your daughter. I will never be (deadname)” and she ended hers with “and you will always be my daughter, (deadname), to me”
Context done. Now here’s my AITD moment.
So, I was sad and angry and had watched a very evil musical (Next to Normal) that had me in my feels and I finally responded to her message (about a week and a half after she originally sent it) with “those last lines are exactly why this is happening. You're more worried about being right than being a mom.” She read it, but hasn’t responded. It’s been a few days since I sent that and I still feel like that was insanely stupid and probably mean of me to do. I had said my peace in the original message going NC and really didn’t need the petty final word.
One of my friends says I was justified in calling her out. Another friend says if I was going to respond I should have done it when the first message was sent, not a week later, and I’m just being petty saying it now.
I also know the fight that lead to us not talking three months ago was petty on my part, so that’s sort of amplifying it all now.
I am very confused and feel like crap, so help. AITD?
