anyone else over think themselves into not playing as much as theyd like?

long story short, ive played mtga over the years and only recently gotten into paper, and specifically wanting to do commander. Im a bit older and dont have a current friends group that does commander regularly and i have this hangup where i really dont want to be the guy who takes longer than others or slower to understand some mechanic etc, to the point i end up being hesitant to engage in weeknight events.

So, for my own knowledge is it fairly welcome to have newer inexperienced players to casual commander nights at stores or is there a typical “pre-req” list i should complete so i show up prepared and not highjack the game.
