DME to pharmacy?
So I currently work at a DME facility but am looking to move and don’t think I want to return to this field again, mainly because my job consists of sitting at a desk all day and it is extremely draining for me to be so still at a computer. I’ve previously only worked warehouses/physically active jobs before this and the inflexibility of moving around is such a deal breaker for me lol.
I’ll have a year at this place in the next few months, but I’m planning on moving and looking into possible pharmacy tech trainee positions. I was enrolled in a course last year to be certified, but ended up dropping out due to sudden financial difficulties and school settings, especially online, aren’t really for me.
So my main question is would DME experience (customer service, experience with insurance, experience with prescriptions and patient care) be something that’ll help me get my foot in the door a little better? I’m specifically looking at a Giant Eagle pharmacy if this makes a difference.
I find medications and learning about them interesting, but not enough to struggle through pharmacy school, and from what I can Tell it does seem to be more physically active than what I do now which is a big selling point for me. I don’t want to make an uninformed or quick decision though so I figured coming here and asking for advice on the matter might be helpful, as well as any other advice someone may have on getting into this sort of career.
