Is the Netherlands safer than the U.S.? Would we be welcome there?

My wife and I are seriously considering relocating from the United States, and we’re looking at the Netherlands as a potential place to start over.

I worked in cybersecurity for military contractors and Fortune 500 companies, and my wife was an officer when we met. Unfortunately, we became the targets of an extremist group that attacked my family and has continued to harass and terrorize us over time. Despite seeking help through formal channels, the threat has not stopped—and it's made it nearly impossible to live safely or freely in the U.S.

We’ve been through a lot. The situation in parts of the U.S. has become increasingly unstable—ideological extremism, targeted harassment, and a sense of real danger in everyday life. It’s more than political tension—it’s reached a point where we no longer feel safe in our own communities.

At one point, when the threats intensified, we were actually offered an opportunity to come to the Netherlands. But at the time, I was so overwhelmed and afraid to even leave home that we didn’t take the leap. I ended up working for SATCOM Direct in Melbourne, Florida—but unfortunately, the hostility followed us, and things continued to deteriorate.

We’re not asking for sympathy—we’re just trying to find a place where we can live freely and peacefully. We’re creative, hard-working, and value health, nature, and personal freedom.

So our honest question to the Dutch community is:
Is the Netherlands truly safer than the U.S. right now for people like us? And would we be welcome there—not just as visitors, but as people looking to build a better life?
