BPD and pregnancy

💭Seeking Support & Advice

Hi everyone! I have been diagnosed with BPD, and am currently 8 weeks pregnant too. Since I have found out and told my fiancé, it's been difficult for me to manage my frustration and loneliness... I've already expressed my need for his support, and my utter fear of failing as a mother, and I was met with a lot of denial and invalidation from him.

Due to my previous poor distress tolerance and impulsivity, I had an awful spending habit from 18-22 and am still suffering the consequences from it. He fears financial responsibility, and I fear abandonment throughout this journey.

In fact, he's been so distant already that I feel like a single mother, and I am already adapting my life to doing everything alone. He'd rather spend time with friends for fear of "I'm going to lose their friendship," has gone hours and hours without responding to me, or even coming home from the gym super late in the night. I know he's not cheating or doing anything that could sabotage our relationship, but when I brought up the intense feelings I have of feeling abandoned by him and loneliness, he didn't acknowledge it.

When I asked him to stop invalidating my pregnancy symptoms and my shitty experience so far being pregnant, he said, "I know I've been acting like that." and I thought this would be a switch in his avoidant behavior, but here we are, and I've spent days alone, and haven't spoken a word to anyone. I sleep alone at night because he "falls asleep on the couch" or "I was eating," but for two hours? And it's 2 am when he comes to bed.

I am tired of asking for the bare minimum from him, because despite my expressing my emotions and needs, I am not met at all. I am tired of sleeping alone, eating alone, and living alone. I feel constantly alone. I'm afraid this is how it'll be for the next 7-8 months. I am afraid of how this will affect me postpartum. What else can I do at this point? I feel stuck and unheard.
