how should i pack a tail?

i'm flying to another state tomorrow and want to bring a tail. i'm not sure how to pack it properly though. I've brought a tail in the past but i put it in the section that i need to put my shoes, hygiene, accessories, and another bag separate from my carry-on. i'm just wondering what the safest way to pack a taxidermy tail in since i know therians and quadrobist bring gear when traveling
