UK Customs

I will travel from canada to uk and was wondering if canned goods (specifically, canned corn beef) will be confiscated at the airport? I'm aware of the restricted items from the website but my relatives insists that it's no big deal as most of their friends bring in canned goods all the time (from outside the eu). They say I do not need to declare it and I should simply go to the green chanel.... Should I just declare it?
