Seeking Advice on PR Options for My Friend – PGWP Holder Outside Canada + Spouse on TRV

Other

Hi everyone,

I’m posting on behalf of a close friend of mine, Ayesha, who’s looking to explore her options for applying for Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada. Before she consults an immigration lawyer, she asked me to help her get a basic understanding of what possible pathways exist, so she can be better informed and choose the most suitable route.

Her Background: • Ayesha completed a 2-year diploma in Canada and received a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in 2023. • Her PGWP is still valid until November 2026. • However, shortly after obtaining her PGWP, she left Canada and hasn’t returned since. She is currently living in her home country. • She does not have any Canadian or other work experience.

Her Husband’s Background: • Holds a valid Canadian visitor visa (TRV) until 2029. • He is currently in the UK, where he recently completed his bachelor’s degree as an international student. • No Canadian work or study experience.

What She’s Hoping to Learn: 1. Is Express Entry really the only viable option for PR in her case? If so, how would it work given that she has no work experience and is currently outside Canada? 2. Are there any investor, entrepreneur, or provincial nominee options she might qualify for from either inside or outside Canada (considering she still holds a valid PGWP)? 3. Could her husband’s TRV offer any pathway toward PR or sponsorship, now or in the future? 4. Would it be helpful or necessary for her to return to Canada soon and start working, even in a general job, to increase her eligibility for PR?

She’s trying to avoid taking the wrong path or spending money on consultations without at least some awareness of what’s realistically available.

Any guidance, experience, or direction would be hugely appreciated. Thank you so much for your time!

Regards, Imran
