Switch dock questions

Anyone tried a Switch 1 or 2 dock with the opposite gen in anyway? I was going to order and usb-c cable extended to try with both but wondering if anyone else has tried. Prolly the worst thing Nintendo could have done, at least make the switch 2 dock backward compatible.
