How much space to leave for a toilet before it looks too big and stupid? What's the maximum???

We have a guest bathroom in the basement that won't get used much and my wife picked a vanity that would leave 44 inches of space between the bathtub and the vanity, where the toilet would go. Everywhere I look online I see people talking about minimum saying you need at least 30 but 32 or 36 is nicer. But I can't find anywhere where someone says how big it can be before it looks ridiculous! I feel 44 is a ton and maybe she should just try to find a bigger vanity. Do you think 44 is okay?
