Poor experience with The Edit hotels
I’ve done some comparisons, and I’m disappointed to see that the Edit hotel rates are either inflated relative to booking direct or booking via Chase Travel using a non-Sapphire Reserve (to where the $100 credit and free breakfast results in, at best, “break even”). In addition, when some Edit hotels would otherwise have lower rates (e.g. off peak season) they show up as “Sold Out”. I then selected my Freedom card in Chase travel and repeated the search: $245/night - plenty of availability.
Another data point where The Edit has availability: search the same nights using a Freedom card in Chase travel and the same hotel shows up for $100/night less. With lower taxes etc that’s $250-300 less on a 2 night stay booking using a Freedom vs Sapphire Reserve The Edit.
The Sapphire Reserve The Edit benefit is looking like a total scam to me. Sure, $250 off a $500/night hotel you would’ve booked anyways for $350/night direct or via the “normal” Chase Travel sounds great, but you’re spending $250-300 or more extra on a 2-night stay to get $250 back.
