THANK GOODNESS I didn't have to manually reset my cameras
Unifi Protect migration that was *almost* from hell.
I'm moving my Protect from UDM-SE to a dedicated UNVR, and adding two additional 16TB drives to my existing one for 38TB w/ RAID 5. I first made a backup config of Protect on my UDM-SE. Then I popped the drive out, inserted all three drives into the UNVR, and started it up. Attempted to restore from backup: failed, cannot restore. Huh.
OK, restart Protect on the UDM-SE, but there's no config and no way to create a backup with the original drive installed. Fine. I pop the original drive back into the UDM-SE, and now it shows up corrupt. Yikes.I try restoring a few more times on the UNVR, but no dice. (BTW, I'm now 0 for 3 on various Unifi restores).
So I don't mind starting over, and I didn't need the existing video footage. But the main problem is all my cameras are still adopted by the UDM-SE, and some are 20ft up on walls and on the roof, mounted in the attic, on ceilings and in junction boxes...do I have to do what every other Unifi device requires and hard-reset every camera with a paper clip in order to re-adopt to a new device?! This is going to SUCK.
Before I commit to doing this, I dig around everywhere I can. Some old Protect screenshots show a "Reassign to this console" option in the mobile app. And the help text in Site Manager says this is possible. But that's nowhere to be found in my app. In desperation, I try the "Remove" option from camera settings in the UDM-SE Protect. The camera is removed from the console, but nothing happens for 5 minutes. I sigh and am about to break out the ladder and reset everything, and suddenly the camera shows up as "preparing to adopt." After a minute, it shows up as adoptable! I switch to the UNVR, and it shows up as adoptable there too!
One by one, I "remove" the cameras from the UDM-SE console, and they all show up as reset and adoptable in the UNVR after a minute. I add all my cameras to the UNVR, and uninstall Protect from the UDM-SE. I'm now waiting for all 3 16TB drives to finish initializing into RAID 5. It looks like it's going to take 2.5 days. Even so, it's already SO MUCH faster than a single drive in my UDM-SE. Scrubbing is near instant, playback starts almost instantly after you scrub, and it's estimated that I have more than 2x the storage from my single drive.
I am SO glad just removing the cameras from the console makes them readoptable. I just wish Unifi's UI and documentation was clear about it.
