Why can’t we speak up for ourselves when our parents yell at us or control us?
Growing up, my mom tends to get mad at me, and she would start yelling. And I would just sit there, wouldn’t look at her, wouldn’t say anything, and I would let her just keep saying whatever she needed to say.
Then when I was at a leadership zoom call, one day, the discussion was a bit heated, and people were leaving the call.
I was like, What? You can do that? 😱🤯
And thinking back I still wouldn’t because of this one reason.
Our body was not ready for it.
When we’re under stress, we can be in a fight, fight, freeze or fawn mode.
So we have to know exactly what our body’s nervous system is doing first, so we can calm it down.
(I have a video called 3 techniques to reduce stress and anxiety for this purpose).
Then we have to figure out “what is it that I feel unsafe to do?”
This question will help you prepare for the aftermath.
Do you have the ability to leave your house? Are you able to financially support yourself? Are you able to physically handle if they start hitting you? Are you prepared emotionally to handle their reactions?
If you can’t say yes to these, then sometimes you may have to resort back to lying, hiding, staying quiet.
I’m putting this out there because I see that a lot of times, people just say, leave home, or speak back, but when they’re not ready for it yet, then there is not a lot of advantage to the actions.
To address this, I have a lot of resources on my Reddit post.

And whenever you are ready to go on this journey with me, you can always book a time.
Sending you a lot of love and strength.
