5070 + 265KF Build for Under $1,000
There was a very good deal on the 5070 on Newegg a few days back (deal is over now), so I decided to try and make a build around it for under $1,000. The rules are that must be a mid-tier build (i7-equivalent, RTX XX70s-equivalent) but also modern (newest generation of CPU/GPU). All items must be new.
The one obvious flaw is that the RAM needs to be upgraded to 32GB. I have some options but that would have increased the price by ~$100. For now, the PC runs almost every game perfectly fine (Baldur's Gate ~14GB) but the real challenge will be opening 2 chrome tabs.
One other rule is that I only used publicly available deals (free Best Buy account for coupons + free Rakuten account) and did not include credit card discounts or targeted offers unless noted. I still think that the total build price is under $1,000 even excluding that. All prices are subtotals pre-tax with any credits or discounts applied. Basically, my final credit card bill minus local/state taxes. The one item that I didn't include on this list is a rear 120mm case fan since I have extras lying around. Otherwise, there's lots of cheap ones for under ~$7. All items must be shippable in the US and Microcenter is not used.

CPU + GPU + RAM from Newegg during the combo-up savings event (last week of June 2025): Proof of price in-cart https://imgur.com/a/YL9AR6s. Note the GPU comes with Newegg credit that will be used to buy the motherboard.
-
CPU $251.99 - $50.00 Combo Up Savings = $201.99
-
GPU $699.99 - $120.00 Combo Up Savings = $579.99 before credit ($429.99 after credit)
-
RAM $0.00 (Free add-on)
-
Motherboard is $149.99 - $149.99 (using the Newegg Credit). Purchased a few days after the CPU + GPU + RAM bundle.
-
CPU Cooler purchased from Amazon for $19.99 during 2024Q4 sale. Honestly, there's a lot of choices for under ~$30.
-
SSD from Best Buy $80 - $25 ($25 off $75 coupon, for all Best Buy customers June 2025) - $10 (Free credit handed out to many people in June 2025. Still under $1,000 total without this credit.)
-
Case from Corsair's website with 20% off coupon. Coupon should be free to all customers. This should come with 3x case fans.
-
PSU from Amazon for $89.99. Solid PSU that's A-tier on the PSU tier list. Total system draw is expected to be just over 600W which means the system will be running at most ~70% of the PSU's maximum load. Good space for GPU upgrades in the future.
Other Savings, prices applied in table above:
- Rakuten offers up to 2% back on Newegg and Corsair
- Rakuten offers up to 5% back at Best Buy
- Amazon Young Adults offers 5% back on select tech purchases (Should still be under $1,000 without Amazon Prime discount)
Order of upgrades:
- RAM
- Storage
- Better thermal paste
