Help- Audit complete (terms and conditions apply)
Hey all, I’m currently an SHO working in a medical department and have been doing an audit. The topic isn’t strictly within my supervisor’s specialty, but it’s medically relevant to my ward, and he was happy for me to go ahead with it.
I had initially agreed on 5 audit standards based on NICE and Trust guidelines, which I discussed with my supervisor before starting. I’ve now completed the data collection and analysis, and went back to him before submitting the final report.
Now the issue: He’s suddenly suggesting multiple new standards to add. I did include one additional finding during analysis, but it wasn’t officially one of the original criteria. Now he’s finding 3–4 more to include.
It’s becoming overwhelming – especially since these new ones feel more like minor or overly broad additions (e.g. from generic Trust guidelines that list every possible investigation “for completeness” – like 3 pages worth).
My questions are: 1. Do I have to go back and re-audit for these extra 3–4 new standards? 2. Can I just submit the main audit with 5 standards and include the rest as ‘additional findings’? 3. Would it be reasonable to present these extra findings in the ward presentation only, without making them part of the formal Trust audit submission? 4. Or should I just turn this into a big audit with 8–9 standards, even though it’s a bit of a stretch?
