Funny situation

It was so hot today I thought we were all gonna melt.

We were playing last season’s runner up and doing really well. Ended up winning 15-5.

In the second to last inning, our first base dropped a low throw from our SS that would have been the third out. On the next play the ball was hit to SS again and the throw was made to me at 2, I made the catch for the force and turned around just to see where the runner was.

There was no runner. Everyone was looking confused until we all realized that the runner thought they were out on the previous play and had just abandoned first base. We were all so hot at that point that we failed to notice, and our umpire failed to notice, that they had left the field and we all just played it as normal.

Long story short, we still got the out and won the game.
