Being followed in a store vs paranoia?

I stopped at a gas station to use the restroom around 11pm, I wasn’t alone but went into the store alone. It was a pretty busy gas station, it was part truck stop so there were plenty of people there (both men and women). Anyways, I went inside and a man went in at the same time as me and we both headed back to the restrooms. Immediately, I felt weird. I’m not normally an anxious person and never feel bothered going into stores by myself, but something just felt off. I felt insanely jittery, like something bad was about to happen.

I left the restroom and noticed the man was waiting right by the area, pacing back and forth. The moment I came out, he looked at me and I stg he never looked away. It freaked me out (to the point I had tunnel vision) so I started to quickly make my way out of the gas station. I moved to the front of the store where other people were because it felt safer to be around others. He followed behind me, despite there being a more convenient way out (I was moving through lines of people).

When I reached the door of the gas station (the man was still behind me) another guy walked in. I guess he could tell I was anxious because he stared at me for a moment and then looked right at the guy behind me. Then he moved in front of me and stayed there, blocking me from the other guy so that I was able to leave. The guy backed off after that and I made sure nobody followed me home.

Idk if I’m being paranoid and overreacting, but I’m genuinely freaking out. Walking back to my car the only thing I could think about was if he attacked me, I’d have no way to defend myself. Not knowing if I’m overreacting or not just makes everything worse.
