Allergic reaction lasting over 24 hours
TL;DR: Severely allergic to cats, stupidly pet one, having a multi-day reaction that’s messing me up. Never had it last this long. Anyone else experienced this?
I’m severely allergic to cats, but for some dumb reason I pet my friend’s cat for like 10 minutes. Within minutes, my eyes felt like they had glass in them — super itchy, irritated, and bloodshot. I went home, took a Zyrtec, felt better for an hour, then symptoms came back through the night.
Next morning, eyes were still red and itchy but improving. Now tonight, it feels like day one all over again — bloodshot, painful eyes, congestion. Took another Zyrtec but I honestly don’t know how I’ll be able to work like this tomorrow. I’ve never had a reaction last this long.
I’m doing immunotherapy, but they told me it could take 2–2.5 years to reach maintenance because of how severe my allergies are.
