Imagine if Australia were to one day be a republic, would you have the parliament select the President (who would replace the Governor General) or require them to win a nationwide election, and why?
I'm not saying Australia will (or should) be a republic, but if they hypothetically would. Interestingly, I learned in 1999, a referendum proposed making Australia a republic, which most opposed.
