Question regarding US applications

Upcoming senior here. I've been wondering if the US is even worth applying to next year because of the political and economical state of the world we're in. With seemingly innocent and legal migrants being thrown out for no apparent reason, I don't want to constantly live in fear of being next on the chopping block, so I've been thinking of applying to primarily Chinese and EU institutions (excluding the UK). Any feedback is appreciated.
