i’m [17f] falling for my older coworker
We work in a restaurant, and my coworker (early 20s) works in close proximity to me (F17), but we have COMPLETELY different tasks, so at work there isn’t a scenario where we would be “forced” to interact. Since January, I’ve been talking to him a lot—mainly ranting and talking about school. When I tell him about my accomplishments, he’ll give me a high five or something like that. I can’t tell if he’s into me.
A couple of months ago, I was telling him how I was going to get my nails done, and he jokingly replied, “Oh, where was my invite?” Once, I was complaining about my hair, and he complimented it in response. Another time, I was talking about how I was having pains in my legs, and he offered me some of his prescription painkillers (red flag, I know).
These were the most SUPER notable things over 5ish months, but it’s been ramping up as of late.
The other day, I brought my coworker and another person a sweet treat, and as I was away from my workspace (near his) doing a task in a kind of hidden corner of the restaurant, I saw him walk over with a facial expression that made it obvious he was looking for me. He thanked me SUPER sincerely for the treat and “hung out” near me for a bit while I finished up my task.
Then later, he came up to me with a distinctly nervous-ish expression on his face (one I would typically associate with someone asking for my Instagram/number), but all he did was show me pictures on his phone of something that low-key didn’t have any relevance to anything we had talked about that day. On that same day, he complimented my outfit.
The following day, he was going to prepare some food from the kitchen for me, but I had to leave. He said he’d do it the next day, but I assumed he would forget. As I was clocking out, he came up to me and said, “Tomorrow, the first [insert food I wanted] order I get, I’ll ‘mess it up’ for you.” (We can eat mess-ups.) I said that he was the best in a very sincere and sweet tone, and we kind of stared at each other for a second—but it wasn’t awkward, more sweet (in my opinion—I could be seeing things through rose-colored glasses).
The day after, he actually did it. That same day, I was looking away, writing something down, and when I looked up, he was just staring at me but didn’t break eye contact when I noticed. I’ve also noticed that throughout our conversations, he listens to what I say to other coworkers when he’s near. Not in a creepy way—he’ll be like, “Oh, I heard you tell John about that!” and then talk about it.
Things that make me think he might not be into me:
When I walk to my workspace when I first clock in, I ALWAYS say hello first. I don’t think there’s been a time when he says hello first, and it’s the same when I leave. But I’ve seen say hi/bye to other coworkers with the same job as me and are the same age as me.
He seems more talkative with other employees (typically ones closer to his age or older) and shares details of his life that he doesn’t really share with me.
LMK if i’m being delusional about him being into me 🙏
