Picture from when I bought it. It’s about 3/4 full and I’ve been enjoying small pours for a bit.

Price: 26.99

Details: Barton 1792 produced BIB for the Safeway / Albertsons chain at least on the west coast. I assume it’s relabeled as stone hammer for Krogers elsewhere but no proof to that fact.

Proof: 100 - bottled in bond

Age: at least 4 years.

So for starters I’m a pretty big 1792 fan. I’m fond of the 1792 BIB for sure, (12 year is my favorite) I have most of the available bottles and I do buy most Barton stuff I see outside of total wine brands.

An immediate comparison of this bottle would be the Kirkland / Costco green label BIB that goes around the same price minus a couple bucks for a liter in a basic bottle, see my previous comparison review of the Kirkland to the 1792 lineup.

Color: Amber - honey colored.

Nose: typical Barton. Bright fruit with some spice.

Palate: short versions - solid traditional Barton. A touch Youthier then the 1792 branded bottling, It you weren’t comparing side by side you may not notice. Bright fruit, that Barton spice and decent finish. Immediately hits me just right.

Snip from my comparison review:

Comparable to 1792 BIB 100 proof, bottled in bond rules apply. Nice bright Barton flavors, nice mouthfeel, decent finish. Slight grain to it. But not unpleasant. Great neat, nice punch as a mixer. I rather enjoy in a Glen. Compared to the 1792 bottling - it’s a little younger tasting (so I expect the 1792 is closer to 6 year) not as complex or rich. It’s not the same, but it’s close and a great value. Rating 6/10 a regular 1792 BIB probably 6.5 for me.

Nothing to dislike and a lot to like.

I think it comes down to where you shop, if you want a big liter of one profile, or you just want a cool looking bottle of good cheap juice on your shelf or bar.

I’ll continue to keep one. Much prefer the cosmetics here and I’m shallow enough to not care about the 250ml I’m not getting.

Really an enjoyable pour for cheap.

Review (#2? Usually I just do comparisons)Common Law Bottled in Bond.
