Vacation Vent
On vacation with my husband, 2.5 year old kid, and 6 year old dog. The drive was two 7 hour days which my kid did amazingly well on if you don't include a meltdown 20 minutes before our destination the first day. My husband has been more and more irritable with a short fuse. The kid is doing normal toddler things like tantrum when we cut his breakfast for him when he instead wanted it whole, not listening to requests the first or fifth time, and having an ovetall difficult time with bedtime in strange new places.
Last night the kid was way overtired and hitting and biting my husband while he tried to get him to bed. My husband emerged from the room and said "I dont want to be a parent anymore' and slept on the couch all night.
Today he is basically moping and giving the silent treatment to me and my kid. When I gently inquired he said that he thinks the kid hates him (because he keeps biting and hitting him and doesnt listen) and then clammed up for a few more hours. Leaving me to deal with toddler by myself all morning.
For context, my husband is a SAHD, I am a physician in an extremely stressful practice usually working 10-12 hour days 5-6 days a week, and kiddo does full day of day care two days a week and does an overnight with grandma at least once a month. Vacation is a mutually agreed upon mountain getaway in an area we know well since we lived here prior to having the kid.
I want to let him know he's not crazy for feeling frustrated with the kid's behavior. But I'm also looking for a bit of a break from stress myself this week. Being on full time toddler duty is not what I had in mind.
