Civilian aspiring to be VA Counselor
I’m working toward becoming a counselor and want to serve those who’ve served. I’ve seen firsthand how military service can affect people I care about, and it’s made me want to be part of the support system veterans deserve.
I’ve always had a strong ability to connect with others. Some of my vet friends are directly what called me to go through school to become a Clincial Mental Health Counselor.
My questions are: Do you think someone like me, who hasn’t served, can be effective as a VA counselor?
Can genuine connection, care, and knowledge break through that barrier?
I’m hoping to get some honest feedback, advice, or perspectives.
