Lease Ordeal

Hi all,

Gonna try and keep this short. I signed a lease in August 2024 with a “private” landlord who used a rental company for the lease contract and maintenance, but otherwise I pay rent to her. My lease says that after it ends in July 2025, it turns into a month-by-month contract with WRITTEN consent from the landlord. In April 2025, I texted her asking about this clause to see if that’s something she was willing to do. If not, I would start looking for somewhere else. She agreed to switch to a 60 day notice lease instead with no increase. Today, she texted and asked if I’m thinking of signing another month lease. I told her no, she had already agreed to switch to the 60 day notice lease. Now she’s saying she’s confused and isn’t sure she likes that agreement even though it’s literally in writing with me asking her clear as day. I called the property management company to see what could be done (because there’s basically nothing on the market where I am), and they’re saying they stopped managing this place not long after I signed my lease. I wasn’t given anything in the mail, nothing from them, or my landlord. Now I’m worried she’s going to give me the boot and I’m going to have to scramble to find somewhere else to stay. I cannot sign a 12 month lease because I’m on a work contract and I cannot afford to stay here after my contract ends because I need income to support myself and the job market in my area is trash. She knows this because we’ve talked about it in previous texts.
