Is the reserves worth it for older lads?

Has anyone here gone to reserves as an older lad.

I’m basically 27 now, by the time I get fitness in range will be closer to 28, then a year and 3 months if all goes well. Taking up most of your weekends for first year. Your weeks cause you have to keep that super high fitness level.

Around a full time Job, wife and child sometime in that time. How did you have time for the rest of your life, family, friends. As cool as it is, was it worth it losing that time, is it manageable. Do you get any support to balance things, keep up fitness.

I really wanted to be a green beret, more than anything as a kid. I didn’t even know they had reserves till this year. I’m just struggling to justify it vs army or raf reserve right now cause of the sheer time commitment. But if I don’t go now, I’ll eventually pass that 32 year old cut off and won’t be able to try again.
