Pretty sure I've ruined my life; Owe $16000 to my rental company. What do I do?

Other

Throwaway for obvious reasons. I signed a two-year lease for my current apartment at $850/mo in August of 2023 to live near the university I was attending for grad school. All rent is managed through the rental company's online portal. I noticed in January 2024 that my rent for January wasn't posted. I didn't think anything of it since the charges for the month weren't always posted on the same day, so I just waited for it to go up. After a month, February's rent also failed to post. The only charge that appeared on my account was $20 for the rental insurance I pay for through them. Out of a combination of willful ignorance and pure stupidity, I didn't look into the issue any further and just hoped that whatever error was happening on their end went unnoticed. Today, the other shoe dropped. I logged on to pay my renter's insurance fee and saw a balance on my account for $15,300 with the memo "18 months of unpaid rent". I am screwed. I have some savings of course, but not enough to pay my balance. I understand what I did was monumentally stupid. I'm almost certainly facing eviction at this point, but beyond that, I don't even have the first clue of where to go from here. Any advice as to what steps I should take next would be greatly appreciated.
