May my absence become her peace

TellDelhi

Sometimes I feel like the real damage in my mother’s life wasn’t caused by my dad it was me. He may have left scars, yes. But I… I became the wound that never healed.

She left my abusive father with a purpose to give me a life better than hers. To raise me into someone full of kindness, honesty, gentleness… a man my father never was. I was her hope, her reason to fight, her reason to leave. And what did I become?

A living contradiction to everything she prayed for.

Today we had a fight. It wasn’t the first, but it was the ugliest. She said horrible things. And instead of staying calm, instead of understanding her pain i fought back. I said worse things. I screamed. I swore. I threw a pillow at her in rage. It crossed into something physical. It became something I never imagined it could become.

And she cried. Quietly. No yelling back. No rage. Just sobbing. And something in me shattered. Because I realized at that moment she didn’t deserve this. Not from me. Not from anyone. Especially not from the one person she gave up everything for.

She once believed I’d be the reason for her to keep living But I’ve only deepened the darkness in her life I’ve lied. I’ve failed. I’ve smoked. I’ve pushed her away. I’ve cared more about people who barely care for me than the woman who built her life around me.

She tells me she’s scared of me now. That one day, in rage, I’ll do something terrible. That my presence itself is a threat to her peace. And for the first time… I believe her. Because I’ve become the very thing she ran from.

Maybe I was never the blessing she thought I’d be. Maybe my absence would finally give her the peace she never found with my dad or with me.

I don’t know what’s next. I just know I can’t keep being this version of myself. I’ve already destroyed too much.
