Heater Calibration?

I'm very new to the hobby so please be kind!

I've got everything set up in my tank, I'm at the end of cycling it and after having the water tested last week should be good to go to add fish this weekend according to my LFS (it will have been cycling for 2 weeks on Friday). But one thing I can't figure out for the life of me is how to calibrate this heater. I've watched several youtube videos and still am not getting it, so I'm appealing to this community for help :)

This is a 15 gallon HelloReef Clownfish and Anenome tank with a 50W Eheim Heater

Here's what happens: I put the heater in the tank and set it between 77 and 78. The thermometer shows 84. My understanding is that I have to turn the blue wheel until the smaller red peg (in the picture, set to 93) represents the true temp of the tank, 84. Then I spin the blue wheel again so that the red arrow is between 77 and 78. I've been futzing with it for a week now and have gotten close, but not exactly at the right temp. I really don't want to put any fish in before I can get this figured out, so I appreciate any help :)
