Is it normal for my cockatiel to lose feathers?

I can assure you that her feathers started falling out before her escapade (yes, you followed the story). She's losing quite a bit of down, and from time to time a large feather falls out. I'm pretty sure it's a molt, but I prefer to be certain because I've seen elsewhere that feather loss could be a health concern.
