Sitare Zameen Par was a big disappointment [Spoilers]
After the praise movie received I thought I'd go see it with my mom. But the movie fails in almost all metrics I don't understand how its getting so much praise. First of all compared to taare zaneen par its absolutely sucks. On its own its still very average. Let me try to share the things which I didn't like
- The actual coaching
Amir Khan is supposed to be coaching this team of special people but the actual coaching process is hardly shown. When amir first meets the kids they know jack shit about basketball and after a couple of minutes of passing ball to each other next thing they show is they win their home turf match. Wtf how!? That is not believable at all because the actual coaching process on how Amir coached these kids to learn basketball is completely skipped over and we just have to assume Amir did a great job but nothing is shown.
- No emotional moments
TZP had some powerful emotional moments where you almost cry like when Ishaan is crying in the bathroom and some more but in this movie there is no emotional moments. They try to create some but it doesn't work because you don't know anything about these kids so its hard to feel much emotion. Which brings me to my next point.
- Hardly any background for the characters
Its obviously was going to be impossible to show detailed back story anx struggles of each kid due to the large cast but they only spend like 30 seconds each in one scene where the kids background is shown. Simply not enough.
- Lack of any good memorable songs
TZP had banger songs and this movie doesn't have any.
- Unnecessary plot points that doesn't belong in the movie
Amir's mom having a relationship with another man is suddenly brought up at the end of the movie and the movie preaches its okay. Like how in the hell is that okay!? Also what was the point of this side plot!? Also Genelia's character insulting Amir for not wanting kids doesn't make sense to me. Double income no kids is a thing nowadays and what's the issue with Amir not wanting kids? And Genelia doesn't miss any chance to talk about wanting kids. And some non family suggestive scenes were awkward like when Amir goes to his house and Genelia is loudly moaning in the other room which lasts too long. Its clearly suggested she is having sex until Amir open the doors and she's practicing boxing. Like why the hell was this scene needed in a family movie!?
- Humor doesn't land much
Not many funny laugh out loud moments in the movie. Comedy is subjective i guess but this movie didn't have much humor that worked for me.
So in conclusion I didn't like the movie and my mom didn't like it either. We both agreed that TZP was a far incredibly more superior movie and this was just not good. Please share your thoughts, do you think the praise is justified?
