Point system makes nonsense

Why is a point system set up just for your placement in said system doesn’t even help you into the finals ? How doesn’t Kirsten Anderson place 5th and still get in but this above her don’t ? Don’t say “cause she’s an Anderson” tho that’s the main reason why it’s not a valid reason.
