I tried building a voice recorder with Replit
I needed an online voice recorder the other day and searched on google but most of them either didn’t let me trim audio, only had one download format, or just had a clunky UI. Since I've never built anything and deployed it publicly I thought I just build my own.
I decided to try Replit since I hadn’t used it before and I keep seeing videos on youtube talking bragging with their money printing machines built using these AI tools. I picked the modern web app option because it said that would use Next.js.
At first it was better than I expected. Compared to the AI tools I usually use (Copilot and ChatGPT) it is really fast and quite good. But the free quota ran out quick. I upgraded to the $25 Core plan and after maybe 15 extra requests I had already used $7 of the quota. That felt kind of ridiculous thinking of how fast the cost stacks up.
So I stopped there, downloaded the code and saw it wasn't even built with Next.js but with React + Vite. I ended up moving everything into a Next.js project and deployed it to Vercel.
The app is live now if anyone wants to take a look at it.

If you’ve tried Replit or some other tool in the past I’d be curious what your experience was like and what you think of the cost.
