I left my number for a guy working at a restaurant, should I follow up or just move on?
A few weeks ago, I went out for dinner with my family and noticed a guy working behind the grill at the restaurant. We made eye contact several times throughout the night, and he even smiled at me once. As I was leaving, I glanced back and saw him looking at me too.
I couldn’t stop thinking about him afterward, it was one of those “what if?” moments that lingered for days. After a lot of overthinking, I decided I wanted to give him my number. I figured that since he was working, he wouldn’t be able to approach me even if he wanted to, so I’d make the first move.
About a week later, I called the restaurant and casually asked which days he usually works. I described him, and once the person on the phone realized who I meant, they told me he’d be in that night and also on Mondays.
Because of my own schedule, I wasn’t able to go until the following Monday (so two weeks after the initial dinner). I went in, ordered a drink, and sat around for a while to see if I could spot him. I saw him briefly and he looked in my direction once, but nothing more.
When I went to pay, I walked up to the bar area next to the grill (where he was standing pretty close by), kept my cool, paid, and handed a note with my name and number to the person I paid (maybe a manager), asking if they could pass it on to the grill guy. They said they would. Then I left.
It’s now been 48 hours, and I haven’t heard anything.
So I’m wondering:
- Should I call the restaurant to check if he actually got the note?
- Should I go back and eat there again in case he just hasn’t reached out yet?
- Or should I just accept that he may not be interested and let it go?
