AITA for calling friend out
( to preface this I want to start off that in no way do I make excuses for how I come across when I say things, but I am diagnosed with BPD and can come across as very blunt at times ) ✨Apologies for the long post. ✨
I (26F) and my partner (27F) have a friend, (we’ll call her Annie, also 27F). My partner and her have been friends for over a decade and says Annie hasn’t always been like this, or at least to this level. We stopped being friends a few years ago because of some things Annie had done which I called her out for and she did not like and threw away her decade long friendship over it. Few years later, Annie reaches out and apologizes for her behavior and wants to rekindle the friendship. Told her we were going to be cautious and wasn’t going to go back immediately to how it was.
Fast forward to the past 8 months roughly and she’s showing some not-so-healthy behavior and I call her out on it, because I don’t want to play childish games. If you have an issue you talk about it. Well than never tends to happen, or if it does, Annie tends to start playing the victim complex card and will find every excuse in the book about why she does what she’s does and she doesn’t appreciate how I talk to (I.e calling her out and telling her exactly what she is doing). Two of the biggest examples I have are from December and today.
Right after Christmas at roughly 1:30 in the morning we get a FaceTime from Annie’s BF which we thought was odd given their schedules with things. We are then informed about the fact he found out she had been cheating on him with multiple people; including her ex and a co-worker of hers. When we were finally able to get a hold of her and ask her what the fuck was going on, I called her out on her actions. The fact that her BF does everything for her and she took advantage of it and if she was so unhappy she should’ve just left him. She then proceeded to go off on me about how I made her feel like trash ‘because she already hated herself for what she did’. An argument ensued and we didn’t talk for almost a month.
The argument today was my final straw. We are trying to sell our couch and she asked if she could buy it off of us, but make payments. She’s almost 4 months pregnant, and in the message she sent proceeded to tell us how she was also leaving her job. My partner and I told her we don’t feel comfortable doing so because we don’t want to put that over her BF’s head if she’s quitting her job, and was frank with her about the fact they never replaced our $180 drill they broke and said they would replaced. She made one of her petty comments and I called her out. I told her that if she has an issue or has feelings about what we said to talk about, not make childish comments. She then proceeded to leave the group chat and personally message me with this: “I love how when things inconvenience y’all’s lifestyle then you get to be the ass hole but when something inches my britches I’m being rude and petty and playing games.” I then told her this: “I’m only an asshole because you don’t like/accept the things I have to say in the way I say them. Or being called out on things. All I said was you need to actually talk about things or let us know when something upsets you, but instead you make petty little remarks or comments. We/I have brought it up multiple times and yet it still happens”
So Reddit AITA for calling out her childish/toxic behavior?
