Doom: The Dark Ages - A Game That Finally Made Me Start Making Videos

DOOM: The Dark Ages

I've been thinking about making video essays for years but kept putting it off - until I finished Doom: The Dark Ages. Not because it's incredible or terrible, but because it left me conflicted in a way few games do.
I just finished it (recorded in my parking garage at 2 AM because I'm apparently that guy now), and I couldn't stop thinking about the weird position Dark Ages puts us in as fans. And of what this game says about modern game design.
Here's the thing that bugs me about Dark Ages: The shield stuff is actually really cool and new for Doom, but the game lets you ignore it completely. You can just shotgun your way through almost everything. It's like they made something awesome then got nervous about it and haven't properly finished the whole mechanics.
I actually like the slower combat more than Eternal's crazy weapon switching - it fits how I play better. But I get why a lot of people feel meh about it. The game feels like it can't decide what it wants to be.
The whole thing feels like they built something really good then chickened out and added a bunch of safety nets.
Also those parts where you're wandering around looking for collectibles? Well.. I don't know
Before I share anything, I wanted to ask: would it be cool if I share the video here? It's like 25-30 minutes of me probably overthinking everything:) Don't want to be that annoying self-promotion guy, so figured I'd ask first :)
