Charcoal powder

Got all my agar ingredients today, going to make them with BB method, Karo syrup and potatoes flakes as nutrients. I saw a post in UncleBens with a recipe using charcoal powder to darken the agar. I was wondering if charcoal powder would negatively affect the growth. Thanks guys
